Kitchen Cabinet Painting
If the kitchen layout still works and the main change you want is colour or finish, cabinet painting may be worth discussing. Mayda Painting provides cabinet painting, with the scope shaped by door material, existing finish, edge condition and the parts you want included.
Planning the scope
Send overall kitchen photos, both sides of a door and close-ups of damage. Tell us whether handles will stay or change. Confirm door removal, cabinet interiors, preparation, application method and return-to-use arrangements separately.
Is repainting always preferable to replacement?
It depends on cabinet condition and your goals. If you also need a different layout, size or storage arrangement, include those requirements when comparing the options.
How Mayda does this
Degrease the surfaces first. Kitchen cabinets carry cooking grease whether or not you can see it.
Take the doors off.
Prime, then sand.
Two top coats.
Spraying and brushing come out much the same on cabinets, so the method follows the job rather than the other way round.
Keeping solid wood boxes is worth it. A wood-tone kitchen from thirty or forty years ago is usually solid timber, and timber of that quality is hard to buy today. Painting it costs far less than a new kitchen, with no tear-out, no lead time and no reinstallation.
Painted cabinets are easier to live with. They stand up to steam and cooking grease better than a bare wood tone, which discolours where it gets smoked. And when something does mark, paint touches up; a wood finish that has lost its colour is very hard to match back.
Handles can change, but say so early. New hardware means new holes drilled to match and the old ones filled. Worth doing if you want it, but it is extra work — most kitchens keep the hardware they have.
