Using and caring for a freshly painted space

After painting, keep the actual product and location records and follow the applicable instructions for cleaning and use. Touch-dry condition, recoat intervals and full cure are different concepts.

Keep a complete handover record

Record the brand, product, colour, sheen, surface and application date. If material remains, check its label and storage requirements. A colour name alone may not be sufficient for a future touch-up.

Ask when each activity is appropriate

Confirm requirements for normal use, furniture close to walls, fixtures or adhesive items, and washing separately. Products and site conditions differ; do not apply one universal wait-a-day answer to every surface.

Clean in a way the product allows

Once the product’s requirements are met, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning advice. Check suitability in an inconspicuous area before using an unconfirmed cleaner or method. Avoid aggressive rubbing or abrasive tools without appropriate guidance. Record and discuss anything unexpected.

Discuss expectations for touch-ups

Age, light exposure, marks, sheen and application method can affect how a local repair looks. Provide records and photographs to discuss a touch-up or a more complete surface refresh. An invisible match should not be assumed for every situation.
